Wurun Senior Campus Traditional Owner interpretation & works
We worked closely with the Traditional Owners to celebrate Fitzroy’s significance for First Nations Peoples and foster a sense of place, pride and identity for the senior school’s students.
SHP collaborated closely with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to develop a series of installations that celebrate the Wurundjeri’s history and the Fitzroy area’s significance to First Nations people. Our work aimed to encourage students, staff and visitors to explore this fascinating history and reinforced the site’s importance to the local First Nations community.

Our work encompassed the co-creation and co-design of a series of artworks, interpretive and design elements for the school. We worked closely with our client, Grimshaw and GHD to realise the Wurundjeri’s aspirations and vision. We then co-created a themed mural, bespoke artwork and designs with First Nations artist Ash Firebrace and Wurundjeri Elders.
SHP oversaw this project from the planning stage to design development and production and installation. Our work was selected by the Victorian Schools Building Authority as the exemplar project for First Nations consultation.
