Great Ocean Road National Heritage Centre

We created a playful,  engaging and visually striking experience that celebrated the efforts of returned servicemen to build ‘A Great Ocean Road’.

The Great Ocean Road is one of the most famous roads in the world, but few people know that it was built by over 3000 returned servicemen as a memorial to those who had lost their lives in World War I.

In 2013, we were engaged to develop an Interpretation Plan for a new Great Ocean Road National Heritage Centre. On the basis of this plan, we were awarded Stage Two of the project: the design and development of themed interpretation for a new Visitor Information Centre at Lorne. Featuring large-scale supergraphics, the stories of the people who built the road, vignettes embedded in a rock wall and an interpretive table showcasing the towns of the Great Ocean Road, our designs connect visitors closely to the people, history, landscape and natural and cultural heritage of the area.
